This sunny weather is putting us in a great mood so we thought we’d share our favourite positive news stories from the past few weeks. Then you can be in a good mood too! From no longer extinct butterflies to wind turbines making history, there is much to be happy about.

Greek beaches = wheelchair accessible

Greece has pledged to make 287 beaches fully accessible for people with mobility challenges. As well as innovative wheelchair friendly ramps down to the water they are implementing parking, accessible toilets and changing rooms.

Swimming in the Seine

For the first time since 1923 the river Seine in Paris will be safe to swim in! This is due to large improvements being made for the Olympics.

Wind power over takes gas for the first time

Wind turbines generated more electricity than gas for the first time in the UK! Solar and wind have seen significant growth in the UK. The first quarter of 2023, 42% of the UK’s electricity came from renewable energy. With only 33% coming from fossil fuels like gas and coal.

‘Extinct’ butterfly species reappears in UK

After officially becoming extinct in 1925 experts have spotted black-veined white butterflies on hawthorn and blackthorn trees on the edge of London.
